粵語班課程特別適合家中說粵語的學生,利用兒童熟悉的語言啟蒙,以兒歌、故事、遊
戲、和日常對話,提高學生對學習中文的興趣。再配合家中與父母、長輩的溝通,讓學生
感到學以致用,奠定了日後更穩固的學習基礎。
粵語班課程包括入門班級、一年級至八年級。幼稚園使用博愛編製的教材,一年級至八年
級使用由 <<MZHY Editors Group>> 編寫的 <<美洲華語>> 教材。課程教授聽、說、讀、
和寫,使學生達到日常應用的程度。除了語言文法外,本校課程中還加插其他文化知識,
例如歷史地理、節日習俗、文學藝術、及傳統價值觀等等。
國語 / 普通話會話課程從四年級開始加入,先從漢語拼音開始,然後引入日常對話。四
年級的學生已建立了一定的中文基礎,能幫助學習國語發音事半功倍,也避免了幼童學生
區別英語及漢語拼音之間的困難,使粵語學生更易於掌握國語會話的應用。
The Cantonese Program is designed for students who speak Cantonese at
home. By building on what children already use at home, we raise their interest
in learning Chinese through nursery songs, games, and stories. What they
learn in Berryessa Chinese School can be practiced at home with the parents,
grandparents, and other relatives. Not only will the children find learning
Chinese useful, but they will also find it an achievement and an
encouragement. It helps to establish a foundation for a lifelong learning
experience.
The Cantonese Program curriculum includes entry level, 1st to 8th grade, and
advanced Cantonese. Entry level classes use textbooks and exercise books
edited by Berryessa Chinese School. From 1st grade to 8th grade and advanced
Cantonese, we use <<MeiZhou Chinese>> textbooks and exercise books. The
curriculum covers listening and reading comprehension, speaking, and
writing. In addition to the usage of language, the program includes other
cultural topics, eg, history and geography, festivals and customs, literature
and arts, and traditional values.
The Cantonese Program curriculum also includes the teaching of Mandarin
conversation lessons starting from 4th grade. We start with Mandarin Hanyu
Pinyin pronunciation, and then introduce situational daily conversation so that
our Cantonese students can develop their verbal skills in Mandarin.
